Hosted services
This is a list of our hosted services. We are expanding this list as new tools or services are being developed.
Issue Observatory Search
The issue observatory lets you make systematic searches using Googles search engine. You simply upload a list of search queries. Each query is automatically input into Google search returning websites that appear within the first 10 – 100 results. The platform can be used to scrape content from found websites and create networks of actors based on their displayed content.
Nordic Alternative Media Observatory
The observatory carries a collection of alternative news articles published by outlets in Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland with more Nordic countries to follow. Use the interface to analyze overall patterns of alternative news media activity over time.
Some2Net
Use the tool to create networks from raw social media data. To collect social media data see Zeeschuimer.
4CAT
“4CAT is a research tool that can be used to analyse and process data from online social platforms. Its goal is to make the capture and analysis of data from these platforms accessible to people through a web interface, without requiring any programming or web scraping skills. Our target audience is researchers, students and journalists interested using Digital Methods in their work.” (https://github.com/digitalmethodsinitiative/4cat)
The most well-known platform supported by 4CAT is probably Telegram. The following platforms are supported through other tools, with which you can collect data to import data into 4CAT for analysis:
- Instagram, TikTok, 9gag, Imgur, LinkedIn, Parler, Douyin and Twitter (via Zeeschuimer)
- Facebook and Instagram (via CrowdTangle exports)
We currently have two 4CAT servers up and running. You have to log in to RUC VPN to access them:
